Ramdonperson.t35.com #1 thing about cursors and icons... THEY ONLY WORK ON WINDOWS!! (98 or Higher too) Cursors - Step One - Click on a link (that ends in .ani or .cur). Some sort of download should start immediately. Save it somewhere onto your computer and remember where. Step Two - Go to the Start Menu and locate the Control Panel. Then find Mouse (Usually named 'Mouse' or 'Keyboard and Mouse' or something...) Step Three - Open Mouse and find the Pointers tab. Click on one of the Options (Normal Select, Help Select, Working in Background, etc...) then click on Browse Step Four - Locate the file you just saved in Step One. Click OK, and then Apply (in the Pointers Tab.) You should see the new cursor now. Icons - Step One - Locate a folder that you want to replace the Icon of. Step Two - Click on one of the links that end in .ico, it should download automatically. Remember where you save it to. Step Three - Find that folder icon you don't like. Right-Click it and go to Properties. Step Four - In the Properties Menu, go to Customize. One of the options there should be Change Icon. Click on that and Locate the icon you saved in Step Two. Hit Okay and Apply. It should change immediately. "For all Views except Thumbnails, you can change the standard "folder" icon to another icon." -Windows XP Other Info: .ani = animated cursor .cur = unanimated cursor (AKA Static) all cursors are 32x32 pixels or smaller (Windows limits cursors to this size) .ico = icon file all icons are 32x32 pixels or smaller (standard Windows Icon-size) *Naming: NG = Newgrounds.com In Anime Folder - D = Digimon Fruba = Fruits Basket Ouran High School = Ouran High School Host Club Under Gaia Online - G = (c) Gaia Online (All names are abbreviations of popular items from 2003-2005) Videogames - Many of these icons were stolen without permission from popular videogaming websites. The original file name has been kept in these cases. (AKA, don't ask me why the names are so weird) C (at beginning of filename) = Cut. The sprite was larger than 32x32 pixels and instead of being edited to fit, were simply cropped. In the Pokemon Folder, many uncut cursors were still dubbed C. CP = Cut + Pokemon Pinball Sprite. The rest are from Ruby and Sapphire SA = Sonic Advance (for GBA) SB = Sonic Battle (GBA) CE = Chaos Emerald L = Lemmy Koopa (in Mario folders) YI/YIs = Yoshi's Island (GBA) Pkmn = Pokemon (franchise) W = With wbg = With Background wobg = Without Background XL = Extra Large X = Usually means cursor was designed for the Unavailable function txt = Usually means cursor was designed for the Text Select function C (at end of filename) or Clear = The unused space around the cursor (if its smaller than 32x32) is clear, and will just show whatever is behind it (as opposed to being in a white box). This usually means there is an 'unclear' version of the same picture P (at end of filename) = includes a Pointer in the top left corner (Not having the letter P in the file name does not necessarily mean there is no pointer) HB = Hammer Brother OffScreen = Animation goes out of the alloted 32x32pixel space and disappears NiD = Nightmare in Dreamland (GBA) M3 = Super Mario Brothers 3 (NES) or 4 (GBA) typos - they occur. Numbers - These tell the (x,y) values of the Hot Spot. The Hot Spot is where the actual clicker is located on the cursor. On the standard Windows Cursor, the Hot Spot is located on the point of the arrow or the extended finger. 00 - The Hot Spot is on the top, left-most part of the cursor 1616 - The Hot Spot is in the exact center of the cursor Most hot spots are not in obscene places... You'll find it pretty easily- they're usually in the top left (like in a standard cursor for right-handed individuals) Certain Cursors were made for specific purposes. The Normal and Link Select usually has some sort of obvious arrow edited within the cursor. Ones meant for Working in Background or Busy are animated and have no obvious cursor (the hot spot is usually located in the center, (16,16)). Help Select is usually a sprite of the Help NPC in various videogames. Unavailable is designed the same way. Text Select is usually an edited flat, vertical cursor that mimics the standard I-shaped Windows Text Select Cursor. FAQ: Q: My Animated Cursor Stopped moving! A: Go to your Desktop (or minimize all programs) and push F5 (refresh) Q: How do they move anyway? A: A program takes many unmoving pictures and strings them together (like a flip book, or a movie) Q: How do you make these? A: I originally had a cursor creating program... but it was just a demo (Some Sonic Cursors have Backgrounds (Abbreviated wbg in the filename) because some of these programs are really, really, good.) so it went away eventually... You can download demos of cursor creating programs on the internet, just use a search engine to find some! Now I use Microsoft Paint and GIF Movie Maker (which I paid $40 for, and isn't designed specifically to make cursors) Q: No, where are the sprites from? A: The Spriters Resource (it's a website) or I rip them myself... Q: Can I use these? A: Yes, please. Q: Can I sell these? A: No, but you can tell all your friends about them. Q: Do you own these? A: Probably not, they are the intellectual property of others... Q: Can you make me a custom one? A: Probably, email me at hannabao@yahoo.com Q: What's next? A: Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, More Anime ones. Q: I don't see any of those yet... A: Email me. More questions or comments? AIM Ramdonperson (or email). Thanks for reading!
